Press ReleaseSouthern Missourians dominate statewide logging competitions Neosho and Salem participants take top slots May 18, 2004—Jefferson City, MO: On Saturday, May 15 loggers across the state participated at the annual Missouri State Logging Competition and Public Speed Cut Contest at the Commons Fairgrounds in Salem, Missouri. Both events were sponsored by the Missouri Forest Products Association. Loggers from southern Missouri dominated the top spots as Ryan Chapman from Neosho won the logging competition’s Professional bracket. Chapman won $1,000 and an opportunity to compete in September’s national competition in Wisconsin for $10,000. Gary Lay of Salem won first place in the Landowner division, winning $500 and a hard hat. Chapman and Lay will be awarded with engraved chainsaws at the national competition. “The competitions are a great way for Missouri loggers to represent the industry on a national level,” MFPA Executive Director Cory Ridenhour said. “We wish them the best of luck at the national competition.” $50 prizes were donated to the winners of the Speed Cut Up and Speed Cut Down contests. Ryan Chapman won the Speed Cut Up contest with a time of 5.77, beating Shawn Maijala’s time of 6.41. Dan Maijala of Salem won the Speed Cut Down contest with a time of 7.05, beating Steve Chapman’s 7.57. Logger Competition Standings & Prizes (Professional Division) (Landowner Division) 1.
