Phytosanitary Wood Packaging MaterialsThe International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC), which is an organization of the United Nations, met several times and adopted in Rome on March 15, 2002 the international standards for the treatment of wood packing material (WPM). For the manufacturers and consumers of WPM, the new standards will not have an immediate impact. Regulation and implementation dates are up to each of the 134 individual countries. The standards are voluntary and may be modified by those countries that wish to do so. However, it is unlikely that a country will exceed the standards that have been set by the IPPC. Previous regulations, such as the EU emergency measures, will be nullified upon that country’s adoption of the new standards. In Rome, some EU countries indicated that they were prepared for a quick response and adoption of the IPPC standards. FAQs Missouri Forest Services Corporation Agency (MFPA Subsidiary)
